Original Songs by D. A. Caughey
Here are links to a few original songs; only in the past few years have I actually written any songs that I'm willing to perform in public.
Songs Inspired by Personal History
Here's a link to one of the very first original songs I wrote, celebrating many years of summer vacations in Bethany Beach, Delaware:

And here's an even more personal song, that I wrote for my wife's birthday a couple years ago. We celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary earlier in the year, and this is the first song I ever wrote for her. It sketches the history of our relationship, so there are a couple personal references that might not be obvious. After we had been dating for a while, and things were getting rather serious, I somehow started placing the aluminum pull-tab ring from a soda can "pop-top" on her ring finger when we were out together. I kept it on the turn-signal lever of my 1965 Corvair, and we used the same "pop-top" for quite a while. When I decided to ask Linda to marry me, and had bought an engagement ring, I put it on the turn signal lever and one day slid it, instead of the "pop-top," onto her finger. Fortunately, we were driving on a rather quiet street in Princeton, and I was able to pull over to the curb to avoid any unpleasant traffic problems in the ensuing drama. Also, when we were planning the wedding, we decided that having a June wedding was rather trite, so we began to describe the wedding date (June 28) as May 59 -- in fact, that is how our rings are engraved, after much concern on the part of the engraver! So, with that background, here's the song, dedicated to Linda's lovely freckles:
